Benefits of paying privately for therapy vs. using insurance:
You and your therapist cdecide the treatment approach that works best for you. Insurance providers often dictate the type of therapy they will cover.
Freedom to determine the number of sessions needed or desired. Insurance providers often limit the number of sessions you’re allowed to receive.
Added protections of your privacy. Insurance providers are allowed access to your diagnosis, your treatment plan and progress notes.
Freedom to focus on personal growth & exploration even if you don’t meet the criteria for a mental health diagnosis. Insurance providers require a mental health diagnosis for payment.

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.
Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have certain types of health care coverage or who are not using certain types of health care coverage an estimate of their bill for health care items and services before those items or services are provided.
While it is not possible to know in advance how many psychotherapy sessions may be necessary or appropriate for a given person, this form provides an estimate of the cost of services provided. Your total cost of services will depend upon the number of psychotherapy sessions you attend, your individual circumstances and the type and amount of services that are provided to you.
-You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any health care items or services upon request or when scheduling such items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
-Make sure your healthcare provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item.
-If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
-Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate and the bill.
-For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises/consumers.
